The history of conflict is as old as time, but warfare as we consider it to be today is quite new on the grand scale of the timeline of human existence as far as our accepted history tells us today.
Before civilization formed around agricultural conglomeration, humanity was composed entirely of hunter gatherers. Nomadic peoples following seasons, herds, and changes in landscape over time. As we began to settle into select areas for growing crops, we begin to see a territorialization that did not exist before. There may have been squabbles between different clans and groups, but there did not exist the settled ownership and rules of society that formed around the urbanite populations that followed.
This new method of living, nesting into an area, making claims to parcels of land that one worked for crop production, the creation of mediums of exchange to manage a larger variety of possible interactions, the building of social standards, the creation of laws, the development of government and static hierarchies to regulate the domiciled population and even the nomadic peoples that would pass through claimed territory, created a new type of conflict that we call war today. War brings to mind nationalistic or religiously formed groups that compete on battlefields for dominance or control of territory, or supremacy of values or beliefs, or control of trade materials or various other aspects.
Generally speaking, up until very recent history, warfare has been composed of large bodies of competing forces that wield their martial talents against each other to determine the victor and dominant body. Today, the term warfare can include various new conceptualizations, such as independent groups conducting spycraft, cyber warfare, or sabotage. It could mean state and non-state actors. And most importantly, it could include guerilla warfare in its many varying forms.
Guerilla warfare is the use of non-traditional strategies and tactics to unsettle, demoralize, sabotage, assassinate, and otherwise make it impossible for a competing force to maintain functionality. Guerilla warfare can be conducted with small groups or even independently. It can include violent actions toward opposing forces, or denial actions to prevent “OPFOR” from being able to function. It can be conducted without centralized leadership or can be ingrained in a central plan and ordered by a central command. Guerilla forces can come from any place and background and can often be far more effective in repelling occupying forces that standing armies.
Guerillas are people who conduct their missions in secrecy more often than with declaration. They operate in the shadows and strike where unexpected. They make inroads into the vulnerable places left unguarded or insecure by their enemies. They use their anonymity and sudden and unexpected attacks and actions to create fear, hesitancy, and paranoia amongst their enemies.
A competent and effective Guerilla force can produce far more detriment to OPFOR than a standing army if it is conducted in the right way.
There are a few ways to organize such a force from a command perspective.
The first way to organize is the most obvious and common. Centralized Command. A central command comprised often of higher-ranking officials, determines the courses of action, the strategies and tactics, the rules of war allowable, the routes, equipment, the funding and all other factors. This is how the government forms its military. Total command and control. It is an effective way to ensure operations are conducted within narrow determinations of success, and that all forces are accounted for and maintained with precision.
The second way is to organize in a decentralized fashion. This is common with revolutionary events. Small clusters of forces are commanded by independent leadership that is related to a common command and control function but is not commanded explicitly by a command center. Decentralized is not synonymous with disorganized, unstructured, or chaotic. Decentralized simply means that, just like the internet, the necessary information to act, learn, communicate, and make decisions is available to each individual node, each star in a constellation, each individual in a group, each group in an organization. Decentralization has been used historically to confuse and manipulate enemy forces. It is hard to cut the head off of revolutionary movement if that movement has no singular definitive leadership. It is time we became educated in the function of decentralization and distributed warfare as it applies to subtle to direct action in opposition tyrannical forces.
The third way to organize is in a Distributed Fashion. Distributed means that every single node (man/agent/actor/guerilla/troop/fighter/revolutionary) contains the entirety of the information that is contained in every other node. It means that every single individual within a movement, unit, campaign or whatever is fully capable of operating on its own. With the ability to learn from the internet and to transfer information and education in packets that can be accessed when offline, we become capable of developing a movement that is truly distributed, with independent actions taken by innumerable informed nodes that need not know any of the other nodes to operate successfully. This creates an opportunity to conduct an incredible amount of different types of actions with no links to any other actions taken by other nodes. The ultimate guerilla warfare.
When conducting a Guerilla action of some kind, the most important thing is to not be captured, of course. In the event that you are though, the inability to divulge information that would lead to more captures of other Guerillas or information that could lead to disruption of other actions, is a spectacular gift to the movement. No amount of interrogation could reveal to your enemies details that could harm the cause for which you are fighting. Rather, you acted as an individual, without knowledge of others.
Of course, this is a highly unlikely scenario, as most often it is inspiration by those close to us that brings out the desire to act with this sort of vigor for a cause. With that in mind, it is far more likely that the largest sector of Guerillas will act within the first or second command model, utilizing networks and groups to conduct actions together, to educate one another, to form safe houses and pipelines for information, goods, and other needed resources.
We must also look at the psychology of our species. Not everyone is capable of operating without guidance or directive. Much of the population is only capable of action within the realm of a command. This is unfortunate, but it must be accounted for when anyone is considering guerilla warfare. It means that there is required centralized systems, decentralized systems, and distributed systems all at the same time. This is likely to develop organically.
OuREvolution is upon us, but it does not need look like a violent one. Guerilla Warfare can be applied to the many varying ways of denial. The most important Guerilla action one can commit to today, wherever and whoever you are, is to act in Agorism. This is denial of funding or upholding the tyrants with taxes or service.
We can ignore the government generally and conduct our lives in parallels systems. We can grow crops and barter for other things made by other communities. We can focus on using real money, not federal reserve toilet paper. We can build drones that spray paint license plate cameras or other surveillance tools of the tyrants. We can peacefully refuse to interact with police and other thugs, by obliging ourselves as communities to show up whenever someone is being oppressed by these clown pirates.
We are amidst a technological and spiritual renaissance that can be used to our advantage in creating a more free world. If we do nothing, we will become slaves to global central government. If we all become decentralized and distributed Guerilla Fighters, denying the tyrants at every turn, we will prosper in the coming age.
